"We're angry, Mr. President, and we'll be angry long after our beloved city and surrounding parishes have been pumped dry. Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That's to the government's shame."

    g. Jure Bezmalinović i brat u redu.
    S poštovanjem,
Ivica Peh, Ministarstvo vanjskih poslova RH
Odjel za koordinaciju i praćenje rada DM/KU

    Napomena: U međuvremenu sam saznao
da je Juro (George) Bezmalinović s obitelji
u prijatelja Douga u Atlanti gdje sam ga uspio
    kontaktirati telefonom.

Croats in Biloxi, Mississippi - Gulf Coast
Mario Profaca asked about certain Croats in New Orleans. There is a very old Croatian community in Biloxi, Mississippi which was also devastated by Katrina. A report on Friday, September 2 on National Public Radio talked about Biloxi. Toward the end of the report, the reporter spoke with George Garban, a Croatian American who went through the rubble and raised the Croatian flag over the building that used to be the Slavic Benevolent Center located at Mrytle and 1st in Biloxi. "It's our heritage" Garban said. The reporter notes that Garban address the flag with tears in his eyes. "God bless us, someone's got to." The complete story can be heard here.
The story is 5 minutes long. The portion concerning Garban comes on at about 4:20 into the story.

Opaka Katrina uznemirila i Dubu Pelješku

    Ured Glasnogovornice MVPEI-a
